our name.
C3 Church Ballina began in February of 2002. The church was initially known as Rivercity church; the name chosen as an acknowledgement of the Richmond River which flows into the ocean at Ballina.
At that time we were also unable to use the Christian City Church (C3) name, as we had just joined the C3 movement and needed to undertake a 12 month probationary period.
At the end of 2002 we were invited to become full members of C3 however by then the name “Rivercity” had stuck with most of the local people, who still refer to us as Rivercity.
our growth.
The church began its first public meetings in the Ballina CWA hall. There were 26 people in attendance at our first meeting, most of whom are still with the church. Many of them today serve on the church board.
From there steady growth caused a move to the Southern Cross High School Performing Arts Space and from there to the Primary Hall, then 12 months later to the High School Gymnasium.
This became our home for the next 7 years with dedicated teams setting up chairs and equipment every Sunday using an old truck as storage and transport.
our building.
We spent 4 years investigating a total of 16 different properties and in December of 2007 we were finally able to sign contracts to purchase a disused factory at 24 Endeavour Close.
The next 12 months were taken up with planning and council applications. Then in January of 2009 we had the go ahead to start renovating the site into a church facility.
This was done over the next 14 months through fortnightly working bees and the generosity of many local businesses and of course our church community.
In March 2010 we held our first meeting in the new facility…… it was still not complete but good enough to celebrate our 8th anniversary.
At present we are completing stage 2 of the renovation with much excitement at having our own church home.
2012 marks our tenth anniversary - lots of partying planned, so keep an eye out!
